Platelet rich plasma injections have many uses in the medical and cosmetic worlds. Regardless of what the PRP is used for, there generally is some minimal aftercare and precautions to take. So, how long does it take to recover from platelet rich plasma?
PRP procedures do not have downtime or a recovery comparable to that of surgery. However, patients may need to alter their routines or take precautions for a couple of weeks after the procedure. For example, following a PRP hair restoration procedure, patients will need to avoid strenuous exercise for a few days. Once any side effects subside, a full exercise routine can commence.
Patients will also want to refrain from getting the injection sites wet. This could include washing their hair, facial cleansing, etc. for one to two days as the sites heal. Doing this helps prevent infection and side effects like redness or swelling.
Patients can usually return to their full daily routines within two to three days. Work is generally not affected by platelet rich plasma injections, but a particularly strenuous job may require taking it easy for a day or so. Planning to have PRP injections before the weekend is perfect as it will allow patients to recover over the weekend and return to work the following Monday.
