PRP Microneedling Downtime: What To Expect?

Microneedling is a non-invasive treatment that creates small punctures in the skin to induce collagen production for skin renewal. Often, microneedling is performed on it’s own with hyaluronic acid spread on the skin. PRP microneedling replaces the hyaluronic acid with platelet rich plasma to stimulate extra collagen. With traditional microneedling, downtime is minimal and most patients experience no interruption in daily life. The same is mostly true for PRP microneedling downtime.

PRP microneedling may lead to a slightly red appearance for a few days. You may also experience a tight sensation. Neither of these side effects should be painful. However, you will need to refrain from using some of your normal skincare products to avoid irritation. Most of the time you can return to your skincare routine within a week.

Protecting your skin from the sun is vital after PRP microneedling. The treatment leaves your skin more sensitive to the sun. Therefore, you should avoid direct sunlight and prolonged exposure. Additionally, you should wear a broad spectrum SPF.

Otherwise, you can return to your daily routine following the procedure. You do not need time off work. Your master esthetician will likely advise you to prevent irritation, especially if it is your first time. However, no downtime is necessary after PRP microneedling.
